MEET TRAPPER

More About Trapper
Trapper is Ready to Go!
Trapper is thriving!!!  Trapper has progressed to the point that in his foster home he is able to run and play with his GSP siblings, and even does the stairs.  What a turnaround!  Better yet, Trapper is completely housetrained, rides well in the car, and is very quiet in his crate.  He seems to be around 6.   He was already neutered and he just loves people and other dogs, so at some point, someone must have cared for him.
TRAPPER'S STORY:  Trapper was found in central Illinois with his rear leg caught in an animal trap.  He lost the leg, but he found ISR!  Thanks to some very dedicated volunteers, Trapper was saved and received the surgery and rehab. he needed.  He took it all in stride.  Obviously, he's a very brave boy!   We are accepting adoption applications for Trapper, but we plan to be VERY selective about his adoptive home.  He has gone through so much, and he deserves nothing but the best.  Trapper is such a gentleman...we are pretty much in awe of him and his accomplishments.
Thank you to the dozens who have donated toward Trapper's care. Because of your generosity, Trapper can have the life he deserves.
We have two videos of Trapper:

MEET AMOS

More About Amos
Amos is a wonderful, happy-go-lucky, energetic boy who's around four but acts much younger.  He was surrendered to a shelter because his owner became ill and could no longer care for him.  He loves people and follows his foster mom around everywhere.  Other favorites are belly rubs and stuffed toys...as many as possible, please!  Amos is crate trained and goes right in and settles down quickly.  He does a special little 'happy dance' when his foster parents come home from work.  Amos knows come and is working on sit, along with trying to remember he shouldn't jump up.  He's an exuberant boy who would do best as an only dog, or else he'd need to be paired with an extremely tolerant dog.  NO CATS, for sure!  Amos doesn't pull on the leash and that, coupled with his energy, would make him a great running partner.  He's a good boy who needs someone to work with him a bit.  He is hoping for a loving new home where he won't be abandoned again!

MEET KAMERON

More About Kameron
Kameron is about 4-5 years old, nut he acts more like he's two or three.  He was a stray who came from a western Illinois shelter.  He weighs about 47#s and came into the shelter already neutered, so at some point someone took care of him.  We suspect he was an outdoor dog, but has done so well on his house training, that we have to give him an "A.".  Kameron is friendly towards people, is easy going and sweet,  and loves to be petted.  He has no food aggression.  He's very playful and loves his toys.  He's always wanting to play with his GSP foster sister.  Kameron was temperament tested on a male and female pit bull and did well and wanted to play with both, so it's very safe to say that he's good around other dogs.  Curiously, he seems to be afraid of cats!  Kameron doesn't make a peep in his crate and he loves car rides, but not as much as he loves cuddling.  Kameron enjoys exercise and would make a great running partner. He's very smart and would shine with some obedience training.  He's always happy to comply if he knows what's expected.

MEET MICKEY

More About Mickey
MICKEY IS BEING FOSTERED IN MICHIGAN, BUT WE CAN BRING HIM CLOSER TO THE CHICAGO AREA IF NEED BE.
ISR says, "Mickey is such a fun-loving and people-oriented dog! We estimate he's around 5 or 6, and he's just wonderful."
Here's what Mickey himself says, "Hi, my name is Mickey and I'd love to be your new best friend! I was picked up as a stray by a northern Michigan animal control, and was not reclaimed by my owners, but I was lucky enough to make it to Illinois Shorthair Rescue.  My most endearing characteristic is that I love attention from my people!  I even like it more than sniffing around my foster mom's yard or staring at the pigeons.  Though, if Mom's too busy to pay attention to me, those things are a close second.  I also love fetching a tennis ball.  And I like to play with other GSPs!  But I especially love attention, getting petted and being talked to and hugged.  So, if you don't want a GSP underfoot and don't like a best buddy that wants to snuggle on the couch with you over late-night TV, well, I'm probably not the dog for you.  My foster mom isn't sure whether I lived indoors in my previous home, but I have never messed in her house and can be left alone for short periods of time without getting into trouble.  I am also good in a crate, whether in the car or in the house.  I like to check out the countertops sometimes, but she's working on that one.  Even though I'm not as bouncy as those 1 & 2 yr. olds, I still need some good exercise each day.  I will chase a tennis ball, or play chase with other dogs, and I also love going for walks.  I tend to pull some and am easier to walk with a prong collar or no-pull harness.  I am great at coming when called and will sit for my dinner or some petting.  I will let you trim my nails and give me a bath, and I am so well-behaved at the vet's office that everyone loves me.  How about you?"

MEET STELLA

More About Stella
Stella is a petite, 8-9 month old GSP who was dumped in a central Illinois shelter.  Her foster mom describes her as "an absolute DOLL BABY!"  Stella's a wonderful little girl who is extremely loving and sweet and shows so much bouncy, happy puppy behavior.  Stella loves to 'treasure hunt,' and is learning what's considered treasure and what is not.  Now that she's settling in to her foster home and getting into puppy mischief, she's learned what the word NO means.  She's making amazing progress with her house manners.  We suspect Stella is recovering from distemper.  She is being treated, is doing very well, and most importantly, we can tell she's a happy, happy girl!  She's gaining weight and her prognosis is good.  Stella is worried that no one will consider her, but based on her winning personality, we're sure there is a special family who would welcome her into their home.  Whoever does so will be very lucky!   That could be you!

MEET SADIE

More About Sadie
SADIE IS BEING FOSTERED IN MICHIGAN, BUT SHE CAN BE BROUGHT CLOSER TO THE CHICAGO AREA.
Sadie
is a petite two year old solid liver female GSP, weighing in at under 50 lbs. She was turned in to rescue because her owners had no time to spend with her. She grew up in a family with a beagle, two yorkies, and eight kids. Unfortunately, because they were "hunting dogs", her family made Sadie and the beagle live outside and never bothered to housetrain them. We have been working her on housetraining and crate training and she's been very reliable.  She will need to be crated when left alone--but she does very well with a nice chew bone or stuffed Kong.  Sadie is very friendly with people--she loves everyone she meets, whether man, woman, or child. And she wants to be near you--which is so typical of the Shorthairs. Even when she's outside watching the birds, if you walk over to the other side of the yard, she follows you. She is easy to handle at the vet's office, giving no fuss as she got her required vaccines and had her nails trimmed.  She has learned to come when called and sit for her dinner.  She walks pretty well on leash with a no-pull harness or prong collar.  Sadie is a bundle of energy as we expect from a 2 yr old GSP, so she will need a home that can provide her with a lot of exercise on a regular basis, in a safe location such as a fenced backyard. Although Sadie was raised with 3 other dogs, we find her to be fussy about which dogs she likes and doesn't like.  She does not appear to like other female dogs but she does get along well with several of the male foster dogs we have had, and enjoys chasing and being chased around the yard.  And she had no problems in a full vet's office with all the other dogs around, since they were under the control of their owners and not in her face.  Because she is fussy though, we suggest her as an only-dog home, or ensuring she gets along with the current dog before adopting.  She has an extremely high prey drive, so we think she would not be good in a home with cats.

MEET DAISY^^Adoption Pending**

More About Daisy
Daisy is brand new to rescue, and we're just getting to know her.  She's a lovely, one year old solid liver girl who is very sweet.  Her former owner dumped her in a shelter because she "wouldn't hunt."  We're sure poor Daisy is confused and wondering what she did to lose her home.  But now, she's happy to be a Shorthair, and even happier to be safe!  ISR will teach her that most people are kind, that life can be good, and that even if she doesn't hunt, she can be a successful dog. Daisy loves to play with her foster brother.  When she's on a walk she stays right near you and walks without pulling.  Daisy loves to dig through the toy basket to find just the perfect toy.  She's a little timid and is a good example of a 'velcro' GSP, but that timidness might be because she is so new to rescue.  Daisy would do best in a home where cuddling is encouraged and with folks who would take her through an obedience course.  Daisy would absolutely shine in obedience because she is a happy, very fast learner.

MEET GUNTHER**Adoption Pending**

Gunther is currently being fostered in Batavia, and is loving his second chance at life!

He was picked up as a stray in Indiana by an animal shelter, and was at risk of being euthanized so we brought him to Illinois in search of his forever home. We estimate that Gunther is between 1-2 years old, but he still has the enthusiasm and energy of a puppy. Gunther is very smart, and came to us house broken and crate trained; he gets in his crate and sleeps through the night without a single complaint. He is also a very sweet boy who loves to give kisses, and would probably sit right in your lap if he was allowed on the couch. He loves to play with frisbees and tennis balls, and is getting better with fetch every time we play. Gunther loves to go outside and chase squirrels in the yard; if you show him his leash he will do a happy dance in anticipation of going outside! He gets along great with dogs once he's sniffed them out, and loves every person he meets. He will need someone to spend time with him and work on his obedience training, as he's probably never had a proper home. He would do best with an active family that can exercise him to exhaustion and preferably one with a fenced yard. Luckily, he is eager to please and just needs someone to show him what to do!

Gunther finds the laser!
